Will my cell phone work on a cruise ship?

Many cruise lines offer services that let you use your phone aboard the ship but these services often include roaming fees and taxes. In addition, your phone probably will not work once you reach your port of call. TravelComm offers solutions for communication while on land and at sea.

What is the difference between a cell phone and a satellite phone?

Cell phones receive their signal from land-based antennas located in populated areas. They work in most cities around the world but the signal strength will weaken as you travel to more remote areas. Satellite phones receive signal from satellites that are orbiting the earth. These satellite signals can be accessed from any place on the planet (including oceans, mountains etc.) as long as there is a clear line of sight between the satellite phone's antenna and the sky. This makes them ideal for people traveling at sea, on airplanes, and other remote areas.
